5 Free NextDoor Advertising Tips for Local Businesses

NextDoor is an OUTSTANDING place to reach your local community and bring awareness to your local business. The platform is all about being neighborly and spreading local business community cheer. There are a handful of ways businesses can leverage NextDoor to generate more awareness for their local business without spending a dime on advertising.

Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Claim Your NextDoor Profile. Businesses can create a profile on NextDoor and easily customize it with their logo, photos, a brand story, etc. This will be the main dashboard for responding to reviews and posting to your profile.

Step 2: Post as Your Business. NextDoor allows you to post 2x per month for your local business. However, as time goes on and you remain in good standing, you can make these posts as often as you’d like. Pro tip: When you post, NextDoor lets you expand your zip code range to a greater mileage so you can reach more folks.

Step 3: Use Hashtags. In addition to posting on your business profile, consider using hashtags for your business. I recommend using 2 or 3 hashtags and think of the hashtags often used within your geographic location. For example, Digital Sargeant is based in Clermont, Florida which means I typically use hashtags like #ClermontFL or #LakeCountyFlorida. This gives you that extra little boost.

Step 4: Get Recommendations. You want to leverage this on an organic level. After you’ve completed a job, simply ask your customer for a ‘recommendation on NextDoor’. When they do so, be sure to remind them to ‘tag’ your business, so you can go in and respond to their glowing recommendation. This shoutout to your business goes out to all of their neighbors and connections. Isn’t that cool? And if you get enough, you’ll earn a trophy on your listing! We all love trophies no matter the age.

Step 5: Talk About Your Business as a Neighbor. This means downloading the NextDoor app, or logging in on your desktop, and scrolling through the NextDoor local news feed to brag on your business. As an example, find someone looking for a local landscaping business - and you’re said owner of a landscaping business. Once you spot them, go to the chat string and give your business a shout, such as, ‘Turns out, I have a  reputable landscaping business. Check us out and give me a call.’ It’s that easy!

BONUS TIP: Start a Group on NextDoor. Groups are all the rage on NextDoor, so go ahead and watch the full YouTube video to discover my reasoning behind this:
